Between desert and sea
Two landscapes meet here and neither gives ground. On one side, the Red Sea. On the other, open desert.
Space, and not much in it
Desert is mostly absence, and that turns out to be restful. There is no clutter to read, no busy middle ground crowded with things asking for attention. Ground, air, and a horizon further off than you are used to.
Sky, at both ends of the day
Dry air does something to light. Mornings arrive clean and sudden; evenings work through a long sequence of colours before they finish. And a clear desert night is the sort that makes people stop talking.
